How can we in the web community help people with disabilities beyond just making sites accessible?. In this talk, we’ll move past basic web accessibility guidelines and see how we, with the help of JavaScript, can we make the lives of people with disabilities better, not just by making our web apps accessible, but by creating entirely new tools altogether.

We’ll be looking at technologies revolving around Progressive Web Apps and Augmented Reality, as well as various APIs like Web Speech API, WebRTC and the image-capture API, to show how we at BarrierBreak have made tools to help people with disabilities, especially people with low-vision. We’ll also talk about we have tweaked one of these tools to foster empathy, by simulating how people with low-vision might see the world. All through (primarily) JavaScript.

# Required knowledge:
Some familiarity with Progressive Web Apps and some APIs like getUserMedia/WebRTC.
